I often say, “If it looks pretty, it was probably easy.”
My dad shared CrossFit with me when I was 15 as a supplement to my martial arts training. After finishing my first workout in a heaping pile of exhaustion, I dove in head first. I still to this day find CrossFit to be the most effective and enjoyable fitness program out there. I cannot imagine doing anything else to keep me moving, no matter how old I am.
I began an internship under Steve Pinkerton during my senior year of high school. Three times a week I would shadow him as he coached. In addition to the numerous training certifications I’ve attended, I credit my aptitude as a coach and trainer to the experience and lessons learned observing an excellent coach like Steve.
Two attributes of CrossFit that endear it to me are efficiency and intensity. I foster a passion for proper and safe movement. I often say, “If it looks pretty, it was probably easy.” I love when an athlete discovers that efficient movement brings exponential progress. My favorite moments as a coach come when I see athletes dump absurd amounts of intensity on top of their good technique. This not only gives you a devastating workout stimulus but prevents you from injury and coming back for more.
